Corporate Trade Compliance

Operating internationally across many countries and jurisdictions, our Global Trade Compliance activities cover a similarly wide-reaching range of requirements applicable to Markem-Imaje but also all the third parties with which we do business. This means Trade Compliance is a shared responsibility and it’s important that everyone understands their role.

Markem-Imaje is committed to complying with all export control laws and customs regulations

Adherence to the requirements is paramount when conducting business and for our business to thrive, it requires expert knowledge in order to manage daily import and export transactions in a compliant manner while meeting delivery expectations.

As governments constantly evolve the regulations for a multitude of reasons, such as national security, terrorism concerns, foreign policy interests, protection of trade, internal repression, and other human rights violations, this adds increasing complexity which in turn leads to higher risk, increased duties, potentially impacting margins and lead-times.

The consequences of non-compliance can result in…

  • Large fines and penalties, criminal charges.
  • Investigations and government audits.
  • Reputational damage.
  • Loss of export privileges.

Our dedicated team of trade compliance experts works to:

  • Develop and apply policies and procedures that strictly respect customs and export control requirements covering topics such as HS Classification, Country of Origin, Free Trade Agreements, Trade remedies, Restricted Party Screening, Antiboycott laws, compliance with sanctions laws, etc.
  • Manage the risk and help to find solutions by collaborating with all stakeholders, internal and external, seeking legal counsel where necessary.
  • Educate and train employees, as well as business partners doing business on our behalf to foster awareness and identify any red flags.
Note: Markem-Imaje has a company-wide policy of not engaging in any direct or indirect transactions with Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria, or with individuals or entities of those countries or regions, involving its products, software, and services. Markem-Imaje will not engage, directly or indirectly, in business with restricted parties or in restricted end-uses.

“The Markem-Imaje solution proposed to Bioplants was interesting because we could choose the criteria we needed: Before that, we were using a labeler, so one consumable item was created every time we labeled a package. Today we use hot melt ink directly projected on the cardboard allows us to add traceability to the packages, which we did not have before.”
